Just around the corner

July 1 is just around the corner.

Unfortunately, that means that Vermont’s GMO labeling mandate is only a few weeks away from taking effect and effectively setting labeling policy for the entire nation. Other states are also poised to pass their own laws that will create a patchwork of different requirements.

There isn’t much time – just 20 legislative working days to find a uniform, national food labeling standard that protects the agricultural biotechnology that helps keep the American food supply safe and affordable.

CFSAF 20 Days Template

Anti-GMO activists continue to make a lot of noise about biotechnology – making outrageous claims about GMOs and attacking  reasonable transparency solutions as “high tech gimmicks.”

Here’s what they don’t want you or Congress to know:

  1. Highly regarded scientific agencies like the National Academies of Sciences are reaffirming the safety and benefits of GMO foods.
  2. Tools like SmartLabel are providing more product information, more easily than ever before – all at consumers’ fingertips.
  3. Major editorial boards, including the Washington Post and Chicago Tribune, have highlighted the consensus on GMO safety and echoed that Congress must act on a science-based, uniform labeling solution.

Don’t allow the clamoring of anti-GMO activists to drown out the truth about GMOs – they are a safe tool that is critically important to the hardworking farmers that fight to keep American families fed.

There are only 20 legislative days left – time is running out. Congress must act to find a bipartisan, uniform standard that protects agricultural biotech.
